On April 8, 2025, the exhibition “Modern in Krakau” opened in Vienna’s Ringturm – one of the most important spaces dedicated to architecture in Central Europe. This is an event of exceptional importance for the promotion of contemporary and historical architecture of Krakow on the international stage. Among the presented objects was the project of the Polish Aviation Museum.

The exhibition presents two important periods of modernism in Krakow: the historical period (1919-1939), a time of intensive reconstruction and innovative searches after regaining independence, and the period after 1989, characterized by pluralism of forms and openness to the world. Both stages have a common denominator – modernization as a response to changing social, political and cultural realities.
In contrast to the commonly known views of Krakow – churches, tenement houses and historic streets – the exhibition focuses on less obvious but extremely valuable examples of architecture that show the city from a completely new perspective. The photographs and plans are accompanied by interpretative texts that open the door to the unknown Krakow: a city of innovative solutions, bold concepts and international influences.
We are very happy to announce that the project of the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow has been distinguished and is among the presented objects. This iconic building is the result of cooperation between the German office Pysall Ruge Architekten and architect Bartłomiej Kisielewski, partner at Horizone Studio. It is an example of modern, functional architecture that not only serves museum purposes, but also becomes an exhibit in itself – a symbol of a new quality in thinking about public space.
The exhibition highlights the historical and contemporary bond between Krakow and Vienna – visible in urban planning, building forms and shared heritage. In the context of current European integration and increasingly strong cross-border cooperation, the exhibition “Modern in Krakow” becomes a symbol of a new architectural dialogue that combines tradition with modernity and locality with a global perspective.
The official opening was performed by the Mayor of Krakow Aleksander Miszalski and the Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig. The event gathered numerous representatives of the world of architecture, culture and media from all over Europe.
The exhibition will last until 20 June 2025. Free admission – we cordially invite you to visit!
