Part from an interview with Horizone Studio

DH: Currently, Poland is one of the most dynamic construction markets in Europe. How from the perspective of architects, who have also been active in European markets for nearly two decades, what are the trends in Poland?

Horizone Studio: Poland has become an increasingly mature market in recent years. The presence of foreign investors has raised competitiveness and forced the introduction of high quality standards. The biggest change can be seen in the office market, where buildings constructed 10 or 15 years ago no longer meet the expectations of current tenants. There is also a noticeable increase in expectations for the quality of architecture of public buildings and residential buildings. (…) The next step, we hope, will be to raise awareness and expectations of public spaces.

DH: You often participate in community projects aimed at raising residents’ awareness of the quality of life in the city.

Horizone Studio: Yes, we are happy to get involved in city initiatives. It is for this reason that we recently accepted an invitation to participate in the workshop on the new Strategy for the Development of Krakow until 2030. It is good that architects are invited to such initiatives as experts. Friendly urban space promotes residents’ activity and urban development. The task of an architect is not only to read the current needs, but also to prepare the environment for new challenges and functions that will arise in the future.  The current trend is becoming the design of public spaces with the participation of residents, so that future users identify with the resulting places. It’s important for people to identify with architecture.
